RockMelt Browser Review
RockMelt is a browser that re-imagines the way you use the Web. It helps you do the things you do online every day: share and chat with friends, stay in touch with your favorite websites, and search and preview results faster and more efficiently.
It’s built on Chromium, the open source project behind Google Chrome. Its back-end cloud services power Facebook integration and automatic synchronization of your bookmarks, preferences, feeds, apps, and favorite friends across computers.
Twitter and Facebook buttons provide a quick access to your social media accounts. Clicking either of these links opens a stylish window that displays the feed, and you can detach them as free floating windows.
The View Later feature is a useful way to save any URLs or posts you find in the App edge bar to read later. The App edge also provides push notifications, tracking your favorite sites and alerting you when a story comes out or a friend post new pictures or videos.
Users can also plant RSS/Atom feeds in the App edge to add news and updates from Websites they visit frequently. It’s possible to create a list of these feeds in Settings and then add them to the App edge whenever they want.
The program downloads quickly and is available as a free download from the developers’ site. However, you’ll need to enter your Facebook log-in information to activate it. That’s not a great start for a social-media browser, and the privacy concerns are troubling.
